At least 16 people were shot, one fatally, in a mass shooting inside a Cincinnati nightclub early Sunday morning.

Although police initially said they were multiple shooters, Assistant Police Chief Paul Neudigate has since clarified that there is “only one reported shooter at this time.” Police do not yet have anyone in custody, though they are interviewing witnesses.

Police do not suspect the shooting to be terrorism related, Neudigate tweeted.

Hundreds of people were inside the club when shots rang out, according to Neudigate. Captain Kim Williams described the scene as “chaos.”

“Saturday night, it is a very young crowd. We have had incidents here in the past, but this is by far the worst,” she said.

According to local reports, victims have been taken to five local area hospitals. Some are in critical condition.

Speaking on the shooting on CNN Sunday morning, Ohio Governor John Kasich called it “another terrible tragedy in our country.”

“It appears as though there was one shooter, not terrorism-related, but as the father of two 17-year-old girls going to be headed to college next year, you know, you see things like this and you begin to wonder, where is it safe to go?” Kasich said.

According to local reports, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms is helping the Cincinnati Police with the investigation. Police are currently searching for witnesses, as many fled the scene when shots rang out.

Neudigate told a local NBC affiliate that the shooting was one of the largest he’s seen in his 27 years with the Cincinnati police department.
