Indiana Gov. Mike Pence hammered Hillary Clinton and Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) for running an “insult-driven campaign” during the vice presidential debate Tuesday and said that Clinton’s comment about Donald Trump supporters being “deplorables” is worse than anything that Trump has said.
In response, Kaine said Trump has said some awful things, and he pointed out that Clinton apologized for the comment and that Trump has not apologized for any of his.
“Did Donald Trump apologize for calling women ‘slobs,’ ‘pigs,’ ‘dogs,’ ‘disgusting’?” Kaine asked. “Did he apologize for saying African Americans are living in hell? Did he apologize for saying President Obama was not even a citizen of the United States? You will look in vain to see Donald Trump ever taking responsibility for anybody and apologizing.”
During the course of this campaign, Trump has insulted both entire groups of people — immigrants, Muslims, and woman, for instance — as well as numerous individuals.
He famously launched his campaign by saying that Mexican immigrants are “killers and rapists.”
Meanwhile, the candidates themselves took to Twitter.
Yes, Trump and Pence are running an insult-driven campaign.
Donald's literally doing it right now. #VPDebatehttps://t.co/VZeBQ85nyH
