A major terrorist attack targeting six separate locations in Paris Friday has left at least 127 people dead and hundreds hospitalized. On Saturday, President François Hollande blamed the attacks on the Islamic State.
It is the second deadliest terrorist attack on a Western city since September 11, according to IntelCenter, a counterterrorism intelligence organization that monitors jihadist websites.
Hollande declared a state of emergency on Friday night and closed the borders, saying in a speech that the attacks were an “act of war that was prepared, organized and planned from abroad, with complicity from the inside.”
“It is an act of absolute barbarity,” he added.
This is a map of where the attacks occurred:

In a statement, President Obama said: “This is an attack not just on Paris, it is an attack not just on the people of France, but this is an attack on all of humanity and the universal values we share.”
