McCain’s blogger rips bloggers ‘sitting in mother’s basement, ranting into the ether.’

Yesterday, the New York Times’ editorial board blog, The Board, wrote a post criticizing a McCain campaign ad. McCain spokesman Michael Goldfarb — who writes and edits the campaign’s blog — ripped into the Times, comparing the editors to “the average Daily Kos diarist” “ranting into the ether between games of dungeons and dragons”:

But in their new role as bloggers, the paper’s editors seem to have all the intelligence and reason of the average Daily Kos diarist sitting at home in his mother’s basement and ranting into the ether between games of dungeons and dragons.

Goldfarb claimed that the fact the editors posted the critique on the blog rather than in the paper “indicates that they either knew the charge was bogus or they didn’t have the nerve to make their case in full view of the public.” The idea that blogs are the proper place for “bogus” charges that can’t stand up to public scrutiny perhaps explains a lot about Goldfarb’s own work.
